Please Give Generously
The Satire Education for Wackos Project is a little-known nonprofit organization dedicated to “educating religious fanatics regarding appropriate use of irony and satire.” This morning the SEW Project announced its “Genocide: Rarely Funny!” campaign, which is intended to discourage radical Muslims from creating “Holocaust cartoons” to protest perceived anti-Islam comics published last month by several European newspapers. An Iranian newspaper is soliciting the Holocaust funnies to determine whether Western news organizations will apply the same principles of freedom of expression used to justify publication of controversial caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. The Mohammed cartoons sparked worldwide riots by devout Muslims.
“Use of the gas chamber as a thematic construct rarely makes for good satire,” said Wolf Kleinschmidt, the project’s director. “I could understand a depiction of Christ wearing cliched pimp bling bling and maybe a fur hat.” he said, “But I frankly don’t get the Holocaust connection.”
“Also, I find it tacky, and I’m not even a Jew,” said Kleinschmidt, adding, “Not that there’s anything wrong with Jews.”
In addition to monetary donations, the organization is currently seeking graphic design professionals to assist in the development of its upcoming web button promotional campaign. Interested designers need not possess the ability to caricature religious icons but should have experience in the use of spiraling eyeballs to connote insanity.
