Stinks to High Street
Required reading for the locals and anyone else fascinated by the ongoing sleazefest known as Missouri gubernatorial politics:
But now Missouri’s fee office system is at the center of a far more serious set of allegations, a nexus of lobbying, public money, private interests and political maneuvering that appears to be a Missouri version of Washington’s “K Street Project.” In Jefferson City, where the main drag in front of the Capitol is High Street, they’re calling this “The High Street Project.”
Sources say that a network of lobbyists and operatives with personal and political ties to Gov. Matt Blunt and at least one member of his staff are involved. The web of relationships is now reportedly the subject of a federal investigation. The Kansas City Star reported last weekend that Bud Cummins, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, has been assigned to investigate the fee office system.
